‘Protest beyond the law is not a departure from democracy; it is absolutely essential to it.’ -Zinn. Every Thursday since February our neighborhood has come together to rally against the administration and its decisions that attack our democracy. Together we rally because we are louder as a community, silence is not an option, and to protest is essential to upholding our democracy. I made shirts (designed by @olibiagrace) to unite the neighbors as we gather together to fight for our freedoms. “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” - Pablo Picasso.

This was a wonderful experience bringing in Cyrus to create these shoes. He has always shown interest in my hobby of shoe making and this was a perfect opportunity to bring him in to help create these shoes. We created custom sneakers and donated them to his school auction. Two of the shoes he signed the colorway and even picked out the leather and material. The third shoe he painted. I can’t wait to see him create more!!!

Last shoe of 2024. Each year we do a secret Santa gift exchange for Merry Merto New Year. The past couple of years I’ve customized a sneaker for my Secret Santa. This year I made a @padres custom Jordan 1 for @myssirk a big Padres fan. Hope you like em. Let’s go padres!!!

My New Year’s resolution for 2024 was to commit to working on the craft of shoe making. I decided to switch a job that I had for 7 years to another one that gave me more flexibility and less stress. I used my time this year to improve my skills with each shoe, I challenged my creativity, became a part of an awesome custom shoe making community, and found a sense of community amongst local small business owners here in DC.
I made over 25 custom pairs of shoes, made hundreds of leather passport wallets and leather cardholders, was a vendor at 8 local markets throughout DC, and entered several online Sneaker battles.

Every step has been a learning experience, and I’m so grateful for the support and encouragement along the way. The process is challenging, but seeing each shoe come to life with personal touches, and knowing that it will make someone feel unique and confident, makes it all worth it.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, inspired, and trusted me with their vision this year. Here’s to many more creations, growth. I’m ready for 2025.

The first Filipinos to arrive in the Americas was October 18, 1587 in Morro Bay CA. October is officially recognized as Filipino American History Month. Filipino American history isn’t just the history of Filipinos in America it is embedded into US history itself. From the first Filipino settlements established in Louisiana, to the first Filipino indentured servants in Hawaii, Washington, and Alaska. Filipinos have been an integral part of establishing Farm Unions in Delano with Philip Vera Cruz, and participating as civil rights activists in San Francisco. Today Filipino-Americans are representing the culture in the arts, music, sports, and politics. The theme of FAHM this year is “Struggle, Resistance, Solidarity, and Resilience”. The theme recognizes the ways that Filipino Americans have persisted through systemic oppression and violence, organized to fight against injustice, and overcome adversity.

Spent the past couple of days teaching Cy’s daycare teacher @the.educator.ms.hazel the craft of making a shoe. I never thought I would ever teach a class but it reminded me of how challenging it was when I made my first shoe. She did great and I hope she continues to learn and create. Growing up I remembered Uncle Bert always wearing a Barong Tagalog at many family parties. So it was a real honor to be able to use his very own Barong Tagalog to make these shoes.

A Barong Tagalog is an embroidered long-sleeved formal shirt for men and a national dress of the Philippines. Barong tagalog combines elements from both the precolonial native Filipino and colonial Spanish clothing styles.

Had the privilege and honor to build these custom Air Force 1’s for a good family friend @experienceourmemories to commemorate the one year anniversary of his father. It’s been a year since I took the sneaker making class with @sdcustomfootwear and I wanted to build the same Travis Scott Jordan 1 high pattern as I did last year to see how much I’ve improved. A very special shoe build for a very special person. Happiest of birthdays to the one who inspires me and supports me the most. I used part of the turban from our wedding to make the liner of the shoe. Not the most perfect shoe custom but the most perfect partner.
